Destinations

The regions behind the eight packages, with the part that decides whether a place is right for a given month. This is a shorter list than an agency could publish, because it is the list we actually book rather than a map with pins in it.

Seven, and what decides each one

RegionThe season questionThe package
The CaribbeanSettled December to April. August to early October is hurricane season, and the low rates are low for that reasonCaribbean all inclusive
The Caribbean coast of MexicoSame weather pattern, plus a summer that works for families because the sea is warm and the days are longMexico family week
AlaskaAn eighteen week season and no shoulder. May and September are cheaper, colder and grayer; the ships simply stop after thatAlaska Inside Passage
ItalyApril to June and September to October. July and August are punishing on a walking itinerary and we will say soItaly escorted
IcelandTwo different trips: long light from late May to early September, or short days and a chance of aurora from October to MarchIceland small group
PortugalThe best value window in western Europe: March to June, September to early November. Winter is wet, mild and very cheapPortugal independent
Costa RicaDry December to April. Green season rains in the afternoon and stops, and costs noticeably lessCosta Rica independent

Why the list is this short

An agency that claims every country claims nothing. We publish the places we book often enough to know something useful about, which currently is seven.

That does not mean we will not arrange somewhere else. It means that if you ask about a country not on this list, the honest answer is that we will do the research with you rather than pretend we already have it, and we will tell you when a specialist elsewhere would serve you better.

Europe accounts for roughly half of what we are asked to plan, and almost all of the questions about trains.

Getting there from Boise

Everything on this site is quoted from Boise, which shapes it more than travelers expect. Almost nothing here is a non stop flight, so a connection is part of every trip, and which connection is available on your dates can change the price more than the hotel does.

Two practical consequences we build into every quote.

  • A cruise gets a hotel night before it sails. A missed connection to a ship is not recoverable, so we do not sell same day arrivals to a departure port.
  • Long haul days are planned as travel days. An itinerary that expects you to sightsee after eighteen hours of travel is an itinerary written by somebody who has not done it.

Ask about somewhere

Asking is free and ties you to nothing. There is no card field here or anywhere else on the site, and this office is never the party that gets paid.

What you send sits under the terms of use. Which of the boxes above travels further than this desk, and for how long it is held, is written out in the privacy notice.
